ACTING

act 1 acting

act 1 (grades 4-6)

Dates: Mondays, 4:00-5:30pm, 9/15-11/24/08 (no class Columbus Day)

Location: Large rehearsal room

Instructor: Caitlin Lowans (director: Company, Gypsy, The Boyfriend)

Description: This class focuses on observing the world around as one of an actor's biggest assets and then using the body and voice to develop a character. Basic audition techniques will also be covered as part of the class. Perfect for all ranges of experience!

 

act 2 acting: Script

act 2 (grades 7-9)

Dates: Mondays, 4:30-6:00pm, 3/10-5/19, 9/15-11/24/08 (no class Columbus Day)

Location: Small rehearsal room

Instructor: Leah Fine (choreographer: The Music Man Jr.)

Description: This course helps develop the actor toolbox, including how to break down a script in rehearsal or for auditions, and how to use that information to develop clear and exciting character choices. Special attention will be paid to using and supporting the spoken voice. All in a fun and safe atmosphere!

 

act 3 acting: Boal

act 3 (grades 10-12)

Dates: Mondays, 5:30-7:00pm, 9/15-11/24/08 (no class Columbus Day)

Location: Small rehearsal room

Instructor: Eve Kagan

Description: Designed for more advanced high school students looking to explore physical, political or non-traditional theatre forms, as well as find new and exciting ways to explore character, this acting workshop will introduce them to the techniques of Augusto Boal, a revolutionary South American theatre practitioner.

 

DANCE

Intro. Musical Theatre Dance

act 1 and act 2
Dates: Saturdays, 9:30am-11:00pm, 9/13-11/22/08, no class Columbus Day weekend

Location: Large Rehearsal Room

Instructor: Liza Nagle (choreographer: Winter Show 2009, Annie Jr., What the Wolf Saw)


Description: This class will introduce students to various musical theatre dance styles, as well as reinforce basic positions and steps that will aid them in any rehearsal situation. Students should have some dance experience, be willing to work hard and move quickly. While intended for those who may not have consistent dance training, by the end of the workshop they should feel confident tackling any hurdle! RECOMMENDED for students interested in auditioning for the winter shows.

 

Advanced Musical Theatre Dance and Tap (by audition)

act 2 and act 3
Dates: Saturdays, 11:00am-12:30pm, 9/13-11/22/08, no class Columbus Day weekend

Location: Large Rehearsal Room

Instructor: Chris Carcione (director/ choreographer: 42nd Street, choreographer: Winter Show 2009, The Pajama Game)

Description: This fast-paced class will reinforce student skills, while exploring the works of some of musical theatre's most innovative choreographers. This workshop is excellent preparation for students preparing for musical theatre BFA program auditions.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for students interested in the winter show.

Overture: for students in grades 1-3
Playdates: for budding performers ages 3-6

Creative Arts

Overture: grades 1-3 and act 1 (by permission)
Dates: Saturdays, 10:30am-12:30pm, 3/8-5/17

Location: Stoneham Theatre Gallery
This workshop fosters a love for the performing arts in an environment that is both safe and exciting for younger students. Children gain a broad base of experience in voice, acting and movement from various teaching artists, while the guidance of a constant lead teacher provides comfort and continuity. Minimum enrollment for this workshop is 12; because of the extended hours, the fee for this workshop is $250 (healthy snack and all materials provided). Instructor: Alycia Sacco and others

DancePlay

Playdates: Ages 3-4
Dates: Mondays, 2:30-3:15pm , 9/15-11/24/08 (no class Columbus Day)

Location: Small rehearsal room

This introduction to dance focuses in moving to music and allows for creative fun. Students participate in warm-up exercises to develop their coordination and concentration, as well as movement games and dancing with musical instruments, props and costumes. Please note: this class is limited to 10 students.

Creative Dance Theatre

Playdates: Ages 4-6

Dates: Mondays, 3:15pm-4:15pm, 9/15-11/24/08 (no class Columbus Day)

Location: Small rehearsal room
Kids who love music, dancing, singing and being on stage love this class. Students develop self-expression and confidence, gain success in working cooperatively with their peers, and become enthusiastic performers. Creative dance and drama accompanied by a wide array of music is a focal point of the class.

Private Vocal Coaching

Dates: Wednesday and Thursday evenings, Fall 2008

Location: Stoneham Theatre, 395 Main St.

Instructor: John Howrey (director, Thoroughly Modern MillIe.  Music director, 42nd Street, Once Upon a Mattress)

Students will meet with John Howrey for private sessions to develop and strengthen their vocal technique and repertoire. The vocal coaching semester includes twelve half-hour long lessons. The fee for the Spring semester is $300 in total for 12 half-hour private lessons. Students are asked to contact the education department as soon as possible to reserve a space; John can accept a limited number of students, so please contact us quickly.

DETAILS: WORKSHOP ENROLLMENT AND FEES

Workshops are limited to 16 students (unless otherwise noted); minimum of 8 students must enroll. The workshop fee is $125 for the 10-week session. The exception to this is Creative Arts, the Overture program, which is $250.

The registration and payment in full are due by Tuesday, September 9th, 2008. Sending in the form is not confirmation of enrollment; an e-mail will be sent approximately 2 business days after receipt of form and payment. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available.
